What to Expect When You Think You’re Expecting

For many of us moms, there is nothing more anxiety-provoking than thinking that you could be pregnant but not knowing for sure. Maybe you have been trying to get pregnant, maybe you’re not sure if it’s even possible, or maybe this is something that was not part of your plan. No matter what, we as women, can all agree that there is a flood of emotions that run through us when we think we might be pregnant but don’t know. It is perfectly normal and natural that you may experience contradictory emotions during this time. Maybe you’re excited one minute, nervous the next and feeling a sense of dread the moment after. There is no right or wrong way to feel during this time. The important thing is to listen to yourself, your body, and ask for help when you need it. This is where Birthright Counseling, St. Louis comes into place!

If you’ve never been to Birthright Counseling St. Louis before, we want to make sure you know what to expect if you think (or know!) that you’re expecting a baby. You can expect that we are kind, welcoming, and non-judgmental. You can expect that we are professional as a counseling agency and also personal in how we address your needs and we can provide. No two women are the same so no two experiences can be the same! We know that as moms, women and counselors.

Many of our clients establish a relationship with Birthright when they think they might be pregnant. We invite you to come in for a free pregnancy test that is lab-quality, performed by trained staff and volunteers and results in a paper document that confirms if there is a positive pregnancy test or a negative pregnancy test. This document, if positive, can serve as a proof for pregnancy to establish prenatal care with an OB/GYN office. As our counselors are trained, masters-level counselors, you can be assured that your information will be kept confidential at all times. All things discussed with your counselor stay between you and her.

We are fortunate enough to be able to meet each client where she is at that exact moment- every woman presents with a unique set of life circumstances and we treat each interaction as an opportunity to get to know you as the expert in your life, not us.

Maybe you are further along in your pregnancy, already receiving prenatal care through a doctor’s office, and just needing someone to talk to you during this exciting, yet sometimes scary time. We can be that support for you as often as you need!

Maybe you are struggling financially, emotionally, physically, and in need of additional resources outside of Birthright counseling. We have a wealth of knowledge of our communities resources and we are happy to make referrals/connections to help you.

Whatever brings you to Birthright Counseling, St. Louis and our three area locations, we hope you know that we are here for you and your baby. We respect you, we respect your ability to be the expert in your own life, and we look forward to getting to know you as our partnership grows. You are not alone.

In the coming weeks, we will have posts about topics related to pregnancy, motherhood and beyond. We invite you to reach out to us if any of the thoughts we share are important to you and something you’d like to discuss further with a professional, unbiased, empathetic counselor. We are here for you!
